Walnut Grove UMC Receives a GIPL Grant

Walnut Grove United Methodist Church in Loganville, Georgia, received a GIPL Power Wise Energy Efficiency Matching Grant to install energy improvements to their Sunday school, sanctuary, and education building. GIPL conducted an energy audit at the church and, after recommendations from the audit, the congregation decided to use their $3,000 matching grant to add energy efficient insulation in the office and Sunday school building, insulate the sanctuary floor, and upgrade lighting in the education building.Walnut Grove will spend the next year focusing its efforts on their building's energy efficiency while educating congregational leaders on the positive impact of environmental stewardship. The lighting upgrades and insulation installments that will result from the grant will help them emphasize the importance of energy efficiency through all levels of the church. Heating costs in the winter and cooling costs in the summer will be noticeably reduced by better insulation to the buildings.Congratulations to Walnut Grove UMC on their energy saving efforts! We look forward to their increased commitment to Power Wise and seeing them grow in Creation care. The next matching grant application deadline is November 15, 2016. If your congregation has not yet received a GIPL energy audit, visit our website to sign up today!
